The Walking Dead Season One Background
The story shortly introduces players to the main character, Lee Everett, who is about to be sent off to prison in a police car, after allegedly murdering a senator who has slept with his wife. As the car moves through the interstate, you are allowed to make small talk with the officer, who is curious about your situation. Soon everything turns to worse though, as a person acting weird walks in front of the car, causing it to crash and fall into the nearby forest area. As Lee slowly gets out of the totaled car, he notices the dead officer, who doesn’t stay that way for long.
He soon faces with a new fear: the walking dead. The police officer is reanimated into a walker and tries to kill Lee, but he uses the officer’s shotgun to take care of the threat. Still shocked, he climbs into the nearest backyard of a house, before more of the dead could reach him. There he meets the little girl Clementine, left along in her house, as her parents haven’t returned in weeks from Savannah. Lee promises Clementine that he will look after her until they can find her parents. After a night spent in the safety of Clem’s treehouse, they move on from the neighbourhood and the story truly takes off.
A huge characteristic of any The Walking Dead media is the heavy inclusion of a storyline. This is not different in this game either, therefore we will not spoil more of the story. For the uninitiated, this title is best described as an interactive movie. The gameplay is spread over three different types of interaction levels, all of which carry on the story.
The first and most heavily used gameplay element in The Walking Dead Season 1 are the movie-like parts, where the game is played by itself, almost like a movie, without you having to control Lee. These parts include a lot of conversation between characters and as you are in control of the main character, you get to choose his words. Anytime you converse with a person, you have three choices to choose your answers from, and the choice to remain silent. Depending on how you speak with various important characters, they will react to you differently and will either like you more or less.
