Slugterra Background Info
Slugterra is an underground world and the home ground of Cave Trolls and small magical creatures called Slugs. If these Slugs are thrown using Blasters at high speed they can transform into more powerful version of themselves. The main antagonist of Slugterra is Dr. Blakk, who wants to gain control all over Slugterra. He’s a powerful Slugslinger with a special Blaster and has corrupted his Slugs into darker and more powerful form using dark science of Ghouling. Dr. Blakk was already once defeated by Will Shane, father of Eli Shane, but after the disappearance of Will Shane now it’s up to Eli Shane to bring the things back to order by defeating Dr. Blakk.
The game has two modes. The Story mode and it will take you step by step through the original story of Slugterra. You’ll meet different people and Cave Trolls, make your Shane Gang, and defend Slugterra. The Story Mode has a total of thirteen chapters. Except the first Training chapter, every chapter has almost ten normal duel rounds and one bonus round. The Challenge Mode requires an internet connection to work and four slugs are required to take a part in challenges. You’ll have twenty-four hours to complete these challenges and will be replaced by new one after that time resulting in loss of progress in previous ones. For a normal stage you can achieve a maximum rating of three stars. One star is just for clearing the stage while the remaining two stars are for clearing the stage within a specified time limit.
The game starts with beautifully made zooming and panning pictures instead of movies. You’ll encounter them along all the game and I felt it was a nice touch as it saves space and does the job too. After that you’ll be greeted by a time-consuming tutorial and without which I would have been banging my head with the wall. The first Cave Troll that you’ll meet is Kord Zane, who is a huge bluish, Johnny bravo shaped Slugslinger and he will guide you through the basics of the game mechanics, which initially will resemble normal a match-three game.
Before we proceed towards game’s mechanics, let’s get through few more basic terms.
Blasters are part of the Slugslinger’s basic gear needed for slinging Slugs. Blasters are used to shoot Slugs with high force so that they reach velocity required for transformation. In Slugterra: Slug it Out!, there are just a total of twenty normal and five Ghoul Slugs, which aren’t even half of the total slugs. There are three fusion shot available, these shots transforms two Slugs into a single more powerful slug.
